Stables

CONCEPT | Composed of two buildings within the same property boundaries, one of 200m2, and one of 150m2, the private stables were designed to shelter and accommodate the owner’s horses and all of their equestrian equipment, in the plains of east coast Florida.
Both buildings are structured by cross laminated timber beams and columns arranged on a simple grid. However, the first building explores the architecture through a sinuous roof, bringing movement to the form and light to the sheltered space, blending the organic flow of nature, and the rigidity of a man-made structure.

The second structure, closer to the house, explores the relationship between the local traditional American architectural forms and the lightness of contemporary design.
Within the structural grid, a curved wall defines the entrance transitioning from the outdoor patio and the indoor corridor breaking the rigidity of the straight walls and structure, and the roof was designed in a way to bring loads of natural light in a very simple structural gesture: Two trellises that meet each other through a flat glass skylight, finished by a plastered ceiling.

Both designs have very similar floor plans, but completely different approaches to style, and use of material. Yet, when placed on to the property, they work seamlessly with each other, providing all the shelter and support for the horses and their riders.
